Community Northern Beaches offered Streetwork the opportunity to create aerosol art.

Community Northern Beaches offered Streetwork the opportunity to create aerosol art, on the large panels outside their Raglan Street Centre in Manly. One of our talented young people, together with local aerosol artist Pasio ( Instagram @sam_pasio), created BRAVE - a word that perfectly suits the young people in our Kickstart mentoring program.

If you're on the Northern Beaches pop down and take a look at BRAVE and watch out for future works around similar themes. A massive thanks to those who created and displayed this inspirational message.

Young artists share prize pool for Express Yourself 2023

Greatly anticipated each year, Express Yourself unearths the best work from HSC students living on the Northern Beaches. It’s a special time of year when Manly Art Gallery & Museum (MAG&M) throws open its doors to share works created in art departments across 20 local high schools.

In 2023, the calibre of the works on show is incredibly high. The exhibition features a broad range of expressive artforms including painting, printmaking, ceramics, documented forms, drawing, graphic design, photo media, sculpture, collection of works, and time-based forms.

Two winners were jointly named for the Theo Batten Youth Art Award, sharing the $5000 prize money. This recognition is  awarded to students continuing tertiary study in the arts or a related field; 10 eligible students applied this year.

Three artists also shared in the $3,000 prize money awarded by the Friends of MAG&M for their Youth Art Award.

The KALOF People’s Choice Award will be announced at the end of the exhibition period. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite work.

Artist statements are displayed alongside the artworks describing the inspirations and influences that informed the works and the students’ creative journeys.

Express Yourself is on display at MAG&M until 16 April 2023. MAG&M is open 10am – 5pm daily (excluding Mondays).

Today is International Women's Day

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EQUALITY AND EQUITY Today is International Women's Day and at Streetwork we're celebrating women's achievements and raising awareness about the difference between EQUALITY and EQUITY. As Streetwork's CEO Helen Banu explains " Equality is treating everyone the same. The truth is we are not all the same, each of us comes from a different place - in some instances a place that puts us at a disadvantage to others. Equity is about giving everyone the support, patience and, tools they need to be successful. The young women in Streetwork's program have experienced challenges. They need equitable action so that they can thrive and achieve their dreams". SPREAD THE LOVE TODAY!

Whether you believe in Cupid or not, giving to support vulnerable young people living in your local community will nourish your heart with the happiness that comes from doing something good! Our young people are masking their trauma - neglect, abuse, bullying, poverty - with risk-taking behaviours. Streetwork's professional youth caseworkers remove the hurdles that are stopping some of Sydney's most vulnerable youth from thriving. Please support a young person who is doing it tough by donating here https://www.streetwork.org.au.

Our CPR Refresher morning

At Streetwork it's mandatory for staff to have their CPR training refreshed every year and after completing the online training modules and then practicing our technique, we are all now up to date.

Why is CPR training important? The majority of sudden cardiac arrests occur outside of hospital so medical staff aren't at hand to take responsibility. Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on someone who has suffered an Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest can double the chance of the person surviving, so resuscitation is a skill worth learning.
