Social RESEARCH REPORT
The Hon. Rose Jackson, MLC, Minister for Youth, launched an independent social research report titled Prevention is the Cure - Early Intervention is the key to combatting our youth crisis, on 31 January 2025.
As you are aware, Australia is on the precipice of a significant youth crisis - youth mental health issues are surging; contact with the youth justice system rising by 15% a year; and nearly a quarter of our teens partially or fully disengaged from education and employment.
The social research report highlights:
The youth wellbeing crisis
Risk factors associated with youth incarceration
The scale and economic costs of high-risk, vulnerable young people
The value of place-based early intervention programs and required investment in early intervention providers
Australian and international case studies of early intervention programs, including the Streetwork Kickstart Mentoring program
