Shaun – aged 16 – was recently referred to StreetWork’s Kickstart Mentoring program which specialises in early intervention and goal setting. He’d been suspended from school and was struggling with substance and alcohol misuse.
During weekly meetings with his StreetWork Youth Case Worker, Shaun identified two personal goals - he wanted to go back to school and get a part time job.
Shaun’s Youth Case Worker supported him to connect with a local drug and alcohol counselling agency. As a result, Sean’s health and fitness improved and he became more confident in his decision making skills. He returned to school and completed Year 10.
Shaun is now enrolled in a job readiness course and is preparing for carpentry apprenticeship at his local TAFE.
